Skittles and Cabaret

skittles oct2018

Yes – we’ve got two upcoming events to tickle your fancy:

Tomorrow, Friday 5th Oct, it’s Skittles Night –  with many of our regulars not able to come this time (Liz and Andrew, Jasmina, Dee and Tony, amongst others), it’s a good time to have a go if you haven’t tried it before – all ages and abilities welcome  – it’s all very informal, bring your own drinks, there’ll be some pasties etc for sale – should be fun.

>> See our skittles page for more details, past photos etc.

Then in just two weeks’ time, we’ve got Charlie Bicknell, Shameless Angel, a cabaret act coming to the Jubilee Hall – supported by Carn to Cove, it’s not suitable for those easily shocked or offended, or under-14s  – Friday 19 October, 7.30 pm.

‘A high octane mix of English rose, vamp and Cruella de Vil, Charlie’s shamelessly sexy, murderously funny. You have been warned. Roses have thorns.’ The Observer

>> See below, and our Carn to Cove events page for more details, and ticket info – don’t leave it too late!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

‘Big Do’ this Saturday

It’s just two days away – this year’s Big Do in the Field’, the ever-popular annual village fete in the field opposite Warleggan Jubilee Hall in Mount, this Saturday, 23 July, 12 noon til about 4.30 pm.  All the usual things – and one or two innovations.

Usual things:  children’s fancy dress, children’s races, dog-show, BBQ, cream teas, beer/wine, stalls, games, welly wanging, etc etc etc;  plus the ever popular flower / veg / craft show in the hall

and then new this year:

>> Table tennis table will be out, weather permitting – and forecast looks promising.

>> Knobbly Knees –  win prizes –  are yours the KNobbliest?  the KNicest?   And can you work out whose knees belong to whom?  We’ll be displaying photos of faces, and  photos of knees, and you’ll be invited to work out which knees are whose.  We’ve had a good number of pairs of photos coming in, but we need more!  see BigDo webpage for details.

See you Saturday…. Free entry, free parking.

Legal bit? It’s called a Big Do, because, relative to the size of the parish, it is.  But in reality is a small friendly fete held annually to help bring the community together, to meet friends and to make new ones,  and at the same time to raise a bit of money to help keep our hall going and our hire rates affordable.

(see also posters below)

  • Friday 11th March, 9 am – 2 pm:
Want to get your heart going again?
At Village Greens this Friday, we hope Sarah Cox will pop by.  She’s the daughter-in-law of everyone’s favourite postman Graham Cox, and she’s going to be running the London marathon next month, raising money for the defibrillator we hope to get installed in the phone box outside the hall.  For more info, or to donate online, go to our ‘heart‘ page.  There’s a link there to our JustGiving page, where donations can be made – and please, if you are a tax-payer, take the ‘GiftAid’ option, as this adds 25% to the donation at no extra cost to you.  Thanks go also to Warleggan Young Farmers, who have chosen this defibrillator fundraiser as one of the charitable causes they’re supporting this year. As always, Village Greens is open 9 am til 2 pm, offering a range of produce to buy, breakfasts, tea/coffee etc., and soup lunches.
