Archive – Big Do’s

In former times, the parish hosted an annual carnival, and people came from far and wide to enjoy the festivities. When it became too difficult to hold full-scale carnivals, it was agreed that we hold some kind of ‘Big Do in the Field’, as the late John Jory described it. The name stuck, and each year, weather permitting, the community gathers in the summer, usually in the field opposite the Jubilee Hall in Mount, and occasionally up in Warleggan in the field next to the church. Each year there would also be the annual flower vegetable and crafts show, usually on the same day, but occasionally held as a separate event.

Below you can find out about the summer celebrations in the parish, year by year…
