To round off the parish’s celebrations of Summer 2025, following on from the success of the Midsummer Madness musical evening in the church field in June, and the Flower, Crafts and Produce Show held in July, Mount hosted the ‘Little Do in the Field’ :
Saturday 9 August, from 2 pm, field opposite Jubilee Hall in Mount
Mount’s “Little Do”, an afternoon of family fun, with barbecue, teas and cakes, licensed bar, dog show, craft stalls, children’s games and more.
More than 150 people (and a good number of dogs) gathered at the day’s events, and a grand total of £390 was raised for local charity Penhaligon’s Friends. Over the coming year, the Reading Room aims to raise yet more for this charity. More details below.

Where will the money go? Past Big Do’s had been organised by Warleggan Jubilee Hall, with profits going to the hall; but this year the Reading Room in Mount took the lead, seeking to raise funds for Penhaligon’s Friends*, a wonderful local charity that this year is celebrating 30 years of providing guidance and support to bereaved children in Cornwall. As reported above, a total of £390 was raised at this event for Penhaligon’s Friends, and the Reading Room aims to raise yet more through further fund-raising events until September 2026.
Big Do? or Little Do? The Reading Room was originally planning to have a simple low-key barbecue fun afternoon in late summer, but the community wanted more. Rob and his friends at the Reading Room saw their plan for a barbecue expand to something quite a bit bigger. It started to evolve into a version of the Big Do, the village fete that for many years had been held on the field in the spirit of the carnival that preceded it. This year’s event ended up very much being a not-so-little ‘Little Do’!

What happened ?
9 am – 11 am – The Reading Room held their monthly cooked breakfasts as usual at the hall – see details.
2 pm – ‘Little Do’ opens
2.30 pm – A local recorder group entertain the crowd
3 pm – Dog Show (see schedule below)
5 pm (approx) – ‘Little Do’ closed, ending with a fun tug-of-war between Mount and Warleggan – won by Mount!
5 pm til 9.30 pm – the bar stayed open in the field, and a couple of dozen enjoyed a leisurely evening until sun-down
Thank you! To everyone who helped make the Little Do such a success, the Reading Room members, those who helped with the teas and ran the stalls, our MC John K, and also those who contributed in kind – and a big thanks goes to Geoff (the field owner) and to St Neot Football Club (who are leasing the field) for kindly making the field available.
